That is still what it said at six minutes past ten. Gulf Coast News reports that one person has died and that the vehicles were a dump truck and a sedan. Treat this as a long closure rather than a passing delay. A fatal crash is worked slowly and deliberately, and the arrival of a trooper is the point at which that work starts, not the point at which it finishes. State Road 82 here is a two lane rural highway with no parallel route beside it, which is the reason a closure at one junction sends you miles out of your way rather than into the next lane. Heading east and west, the realistic alternatives are County Road 846, Immokalee Road, to the south, or State Road 80 well to the north, and both add serious distance at night. Be careful about what the word fatality on this board does and does not tell you. It is the state's own classification, and the state changed it during the evening, having first logged the call as a crash with injuries. Beyond the death itself, which Gulf Coast News reports, no agency has released who died, how many people were involved or what caused it. The Highway Patrol says the crash is under investigation. Nobody has been accused of anything, and nothing here should be read as establishing responsibility. One caution about using the state board to plan a drive. It carries only calls the Highway Patrol is dispatched to, so a wreck worked by the Collier County Sheriff's Office alone never appears on it, and a quiet board is best read as nothing reported rather than nothing happening. It also publishes no clearance column at all, so when this entry eventually leaves the board that will mean the state has stopped publishing the call, not that anyone has announced the road is open again. Until an agency says so, assume the junction is shut.

Its remarks field has moved twice since, from a roadblock in the area, to both directions blocked, to the present wording that both directions of State Road 82 are closed at County Road 850. That was still the entry at six minutes past ten, three and a half hours after the call came in.

Gulf Coast News reports that one person has died after a dump truck and a sedan collided along State Road 82 near Corkscrew Road on Monday evening, and that the Highway Patrol has told the station the road is closed in both directions at Corkscrew Road while troopers respond. The report is by Tyler Watkins and was last updated at 9.41 p.m.

The Highway Patrol says the crash is under investigation. No agency has released the identity of the person who died, and no cause has been stated. Nobody has been accused of anything.

Corkscrew Road and County Road 850 are the same road, which is why the state board and the station's report describe the same junction in different words.
