Nutanix is cutting about 5 percent of its workforce, and the charge it has put in writing is roughly twice what the same move cost it in 2022

Five percent of the workforce goes.

Nutanix told the Securities and Exchange Commission at 09.00 Eastern on Tuesday that it has adopted a plan to reduce its global workforce by approximately 5 percent, following a review of its business structure. The filing estimates aggregate pre-tax charges of approximately $33m to $43m, consisting primarily of one-time severance and other termination benefit costs. A substantial majority of that is expected to result in future cash expenditures. The company expects to complete the reduction substantially by the end of October.

The document names no country, no function and no individual date.

The company has used these words before

In August 2022 Nutanix announced a plan to cut approximately 270 employees, which it put at approximately 4 percent of the total, "following a review of our business structure". Tuesday's filing repeats that phrase almost exactly. The earlier round produced total restructuring charges of approximately $16.3m, on the same description of one-time severance and other termination benefit costs, and the company was still paying it out two fiscal years later.

The low end of Tuesday's estimate is about twice the whole of the 2022 charge. The high end is more than two and a half times it.

How many people this is, and why the filing does not say

The most recent headcount Nutanix has published is approximately 7,800 worldwide as of 31 July 2025, in the annual report it filed on 24 September that year. That number is a year old. The 2026 fiscal year closed on 31 July, four days before this filing, and no updated count has been published with it, so the arithmetic that turns 5 percent into a number of people cannot be done off any document the company has put on file.

What the filing does supply is the reason the number may move. It states that the ultimate scope, timing and implementation may vary by jurisdiction, and that the plan remains subject to local law requirements, consultation processes and engagement with employee representative bodies, including works councils where applicable.

The chief financial officer, Rukmini Sivaraman, signed the filing.
