Meta expands its Louisiana data centre to 5GW and more than $50bn

Meta said on July 13 that its Richland Parish site in Louisiana will reach 5GW of compute and cost more than $50bn. The project, called Hyperion, was put at $27bn in October, when Meta and Blue Owl Capital formed a joint venture to build and manage it. Meta said it will spend more than $1bn on local roads, water and wastewater. It said local businesses have taken more than $1.6bn in contracts since work began in December 2024, and that the site will employ more than 1,000 people once operational. Richland Parish has about 20,000 residents. Meta also said it donated $5m to Louisiana Delta Community College for scholarships. Reported by Sydney Lake at Fortune.
