About 2,000 gallons of chlorine left containment at a Lehigh Acres wastewater plant, state filing says
A Florida Department of Environmental Protection filing says about 2,000 gallons of liquid chlorine reached the grounds outside secondary containment at the Lehigh Acres wastewater treatment plant Friday. The operator stopped the release, and the filing says no waterway or storm drain was affected.

WINK Digital Team reported Friday that liquid chlorine had escaped containment at the Lehigh Acres wastewater treatment plant. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection filing puts the estimated amount at about 2,000 gallons.
The state record says a problem with the chlorine tank drain caused the release. Most of the chlorine stayed inside containment, but a leak allowed some material to reach the adjacent grounds.
No waterway impact reported
The filing says the operator stopped the discharge and that no waterway or storm drain was affected. It lists the release as no longer ongoing.
Crews were working to capture and recover the discharged material when the notice was filed. Dechlorination and site remediation were to follow.
The state notice reports no evacuation, road closure, injury or public health order. This brief therefore does not carry a breaking flag.
