WINK News reporter Gracie Fusco first reported Thursday afternoon that the person taken to a hospital after Wednesday's Lehigh Acres school bus crash was an 11-year-old student.

The boy's mother told Fusco that her son is recovering at home with a fractured wrist and a back contusion. Money & World is withholding his name.

The update resolves the central fact left open in the first report. The News-Press said Wednesday that one person was transported after the collision near Homestead Road and Sunrise Boulevard, but the Lee County School District could not then say whether the person was a student.

WINK reports that the bus was traveling from Amanecer Elementary and carried 20 students. The outlet says it is still waiting for the Lee County Sheriff's Office crash report.

No public record reviewed by Money & World establishes a cause, assigns fault or reports a citation or charge.

The Lee County School District told WINK that its drivers are trained to follow traffic laws. The district said a report of speeding or another infraction is investigated and can lead to discipline if confirmed.
