A Lee County jury has found Reginald Cutts of Lehigh Acres guilty on every count including human trafficking, after a four day trial over crimes against one child, and the state attorney's office has set sentencing for September 28

A Lee County jury has convicted Reginald Cutts of Lehigh Acres on all seven counts in a case involving crimes against one child, the State Attorney's Office for the Twentieth Judicial Circuit announced on August 7.

The verdict came after a four day trial. The office says the jury found him guilty on every count and returned all of the special findings that go with them.

The counts are unlawful sexual activity with certain minors, use of a child in a sexual performance, human trafficking, familial or custodial sexual battery, two counts of possession of child pornography, and digital voyeurism. Gulf Coast News, which carried the verdict, gives his age as 67; the prosecuting office does not state it.

What the trafficking count means here

The word trafficking does most of the work in a headline like this one, and it usually does it wrong, because it makes a reader picture a child moved across a state line by a stranger.

That is not what the state attorney's office describes.

The office says the crimes happened in 2024 over a span of 34 days, in the defendant's home and in an RV parked behind the house, and that he was known to the child already. The elements it identifies as the trafficking offense are that he produced child pornography while committing the crimes, made the child perform sex acts, and gave the child money afterward.

Payment for a sex act with a child is what the statute reaches. Nobody has to be moved anywhere.

That is the part worth carrying away from this case rather than the label on it, because the conduct the state charged as trafficking took place in a house on an ordinary residential street, and the person charged with it was someone the child knew.

How it reached law enforcement

The office says the child told their mother what had been done to them, and that the Lee County Sheriff's Office was contacted immediately. Its investigation led to the identification and arrest.

Special Victims Unit Chief Francine Donnorummo and Assistant State Attorney Tyler Goldman prosecuted the case for the Twentieth Judicial Circuit, which covers Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 28, 2026.
