Quantum Fiber's own outage map now shows more than 5,200 Lehigh Acres households offline, and the statement AT&T sent on Friday was the one it sent earlier in the week

Four large wooden-flanged spools of stranded metal cable stand in a row on a sunlit pavement against a corrugated grey roller shutter. The spool on the left is wound with dark rust-brown wire rope and its wooden flange is split and weathered; the two to the right carry brighter galvanised strand, with loose loops of cable hanging free and casting hard shadows on the metal behind. No people, signage, text or brand marks are in view. A generic illustration of cable stock, not a photograph of the damaged fibre optic lines in Lehigh Acres.

More than 5,200 Quantum Fiber customers in Lehigh Acres were still without internet service on Friday, eleven full days after service dropped on Monday, July 20, WINK News reported.

The figure comes from the company's own outage map. WINK reported that the map shows six different addresses, with outage sizes ranging from more than 100 households affected to more than 5,200. This site covered the same outage on Tuesday, when the reported figure was more than 200 households.

Quantum Fiber told WINK earlier in the week that a third-party contractor damaged multiple lengths of fibre optic lines. No restoration date has been given.

The response has not moved with the number

When WINK asked for more information about how widespread the outage is, an AT&T spokesperson sent the same statement the company had provided earlier in the week, saying that crews are "working as quickly as possible to restore internet service" in the Lehigh Acres area and thanking customers for their patience while repairs are made.

AT&T answers for a Lumen-branded service because the ownership changed this year. Lumen Technologies announced on February 2, 2026 that it had completed the sale of its mass markets fibre-to-the-home business in eleven states, including Quantum Fiber, to AT&T for $5.75 billion in cash. Lumen said the sale covered substantially all of the related consumer fibre access network and customer relationships in those states, serving more than 1 million fibre customers.

What residents told WINK

Maristela Newkirk, a Quantum Fiber customer, said the outage is affecting her daughters' education, and described estimates that kept moving: "It'll be up by tonight. It'll be up by tomorrow morning. And here we are, 12 days later, still no internet whatsoever."

David Wojnicz, another customer, said the company has been sending daily text messages promising restoration. He described the effect as "a constant text," and said that calling customer service reached people who were doing their job but could not resolve it.

Paula Porter said she drove 30 minutes to use the internet at a local library before ordering Earthlink, and called the experience frustrating. She put the cost in three registers at once, saying it is affecting people "emotionally, psychologically, financially," and noted that the driving is itself an expense at current fuel prices.

Other neighbours have moved to Earthlink over cell towers or to Starlink over satellite while the repairs continue, WINK reported. Customers told the station they have never been without internet this long, including after hurricanes.

WINK reported that the outage has disrupted people who work from home, students taking classes online, and ordinary household functions, for what is now approaching two weeks.
