Lehigh Acres Fire will hire 21 firefighters with a $4.2 million federal grant, Moody's office says
Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District received $4.2 million through FEMA's SAFER program. Senator Ashley Moody's office says the award will allow the district to hire 21 new firefighters.
Hunter Walterman of WINK News reported that Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District received federal money to hire staff.
An October 6 announcement from Senator Ashley Moody's office identifies the award as $4.2 million from FEMA's Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program.
The target is 21 new firefighters. The Lehigh Acres award is part of more than $44 million in recent federal grants for fire departments across Florida.
The announcement establishes the headcount and federal award, but it does not provide a hiring calendar, station assignments, a local match or a date when the additional firefighters will begin working.
