FHP says a Lehigh Acres pursuit ended in a PIT maneuver and rollover, while county records show two people booked

Layza Pinero Resto of Gulf Coast News reported Wednesday morning that the Florida Highway Patrol said a traffic stop in Lehigh Acres became a pursuit that ended with a PIT maneuver, an overturned vehicle and two arrests.

According to the outlet, FHP said troopers stopped a vehicle on 40th Street Southwest at Sara Avenue early Wednesday. The vehicle initially stopped, then entered State Road 82 near Gunnery Road and accelerated past 100 miles per hour with its lights out, the agency said through the report.

Troopers slowed the vehicle before performing the PIT maneuver, according to the account. The vehicle entered the median and overturned. FHP told the outlet that the driver had a minor injury, a female passenger was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-incapacitating, and a backseat passenger was caught after leaving the vehicle on foot.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office arrest search independently shows two bookings early Wednesday and identifies the Florida Highway Patrol as the arresting agency on the entries tied to the pursuit. The driver record lists charges for fleeing at high speed, reckless driving involving damage, driving with a suspended or revoked license, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and failure to register a motor vehicle. The other record lists resisting an officer without violence and a probation violation. Both people remained in custody when the records were checked Wednesday morning.
