The Florida Highway Patrol now records a unit on scene at the crash with injuries on 53rd Street West in Lehigh Acres, an hour and fifty two minutes after the call came in, and the state board still carries the traffic effect as an unknown roadblock

The Florida Highway Patrol dispatch board now records a unit on scene at the crash with injuries in the 3500 block of 53rd Street West in Lehigh Acres. The call was received at 8.46 this evening. The dispatched stamp reads 10.07 and the arrived stamp reads 10.38. On two readings taken at 10.42 and 10.43 the traffic effect was still recorded as an unknown roadblock.

That arrived column was empty on every one of the six readings behind the earlier versions of this item, the last of them at 10.15, which is what has changed.

The interval between the receipt stamp and the arrival stamp is an hour, fifty two minutes and forty one seconds on the state's own record, with thirty one minutes and forty seven seconds of it between the dispatch and the arrival. It needs stating carefully rather than dramatically. This board publishes only what the Highway Patrol itself does. A crash with injuries on a residential street in Lehigh Acres would ordinarily draw Lee County EMS and Lee County fire as well, neither of which appears on it, so units can have been on that street for an hour with no mark showing up here. What the state has now published is the moment the Highway Patrol assigned its own call and the moment its own unit reached the scene, and nothing beyond that.

The unknown roadblock has not changed either. That is the board saying it has not established what the crash is doing to the road, not that the road is clear. There is still no clearance column of any kind on this board, so if the row disappears overnight that will carry no statement about the street.

The coordinates on the row put the crash at the crossing of 53rd Street West and Terry Avenue North. Measured against full street geometry rather than to the middle of a road, the published point sits about nine metres from each of those two streets and more than ninety metres from any other named one, which matches the 3517 53rd Street West address the board itself printed.

That location is deep inside the Lehigh Acres grid, which is what makes even a brief closure there awkward. The nearest through routes are Buckingham Road about 1.8 miles off and Gunnery Road North about 2.2 miles off, with Lee Boulevard at roughly 3.2 miles and Palm Beach Boulevard, State Road 80, at roughly 3.5 miles. There is no arterial within a mile and a half in any direction, so the realistic way around is one of the parallel numbered streets, 52nd or 54th.

What the entry does not establish matters as much as what it does. The state typed this call a crash with injuries, so an injury finding is on the public record, but the record carries no injury count, no severity, no cause, no vehicle count, no names and no vehicle types. The Highway Patrol has issued no release, the Lee County Sheriff's Office has issued no release, and no outlet has the crash. Nobody has been accused of anything.

The board was genuinely populated on both readings behind this update, carrying 57 incident rows across 24 counties and 58 across 25, so neither is a failed read reporting a false all clear, and the two agree with each other field for field. The times on it are printed on a twelve hour field with no marker for the half of the day, and that test was run again rather than carried over: across the 57 rows the hours present ran from 1 to 12 and never reached 13.

Nothing in the weather is contributing as far as the record goes. A reading of the National Weather Service active alert feed returned two active alerts in the whole of Florida, a Flash Flood Warning and a Flood Advisory both covering Volusia, and neither Lee nor Collier is under any weather product.

One other Southwest Florida call stands on the board alongside this one. The Collier hit and run on Interstate 75 northbound at mile marker 91, received at 8.43, carries a unit dispatched and arrived at 9.19 and is still marked no roadblock. The crash with injuries and complete roadblock on Stringfellow Road in Saint James City, which the earlier version of this item described as still open and which this desk carries separately, has dropped off the board, as had the Interstate 75 crash at Fort Myers before it. On a board with no clearance column that says nothing about either road.
