The Lee County Sheriff's Office is conducting an active investigation at 30th Street Southwest and Haviland Avenue in Lehigh Acres this morning.

That is very nearly the whole of what has been made public. WINK News, which put the report up at 6.57 a.m. and updated it at 7.48 a.m., reports that authorities said the investigation is ongoing and that there is no threat to the public, and that the Sheriff's Office said it should have more information later on Thursday. WINK has a crew at the scene and has posted video from it.

The Sheriff's Office has not said what it is investigating. It has not released a case type, a time the call came in, or a number of people involved. Nobody has been named, nobody has been reported hurt, and nobody has been accused of anything.

No road closure has been announced at the intersection. The Florida Highway Patrol dispatch board carried no entry at this location when this desk read it at 8.56 and 8.59 this morning, but that board covers state roads and does not carry Lehigh Acres residential streets, so those streets are unreported rather than confirmed open. There was no National Weather Service alert in effect for Lee County.

Two limits are worth stating plainly. The first is that this rests on one outlet. WINK is an established local newsroom and the report carries a named reporter, Haley Jacobs, but the Sheriff's Office has published nothing of its own that could be read directly, and its public news pages returned errors when this desk tried them. The second is that an investigation with no stated subject invites guesses, and there is nothing here to base one on. A search of the same intersection turns up a Lehigh Acres shooting investigation from January 2025 at 30th Street Southwest and Ida Avenue South. That is a different cross street in a different year and it has no established connection to this morning.

The Sheriff's Office has said more is expected later today. This item will be updated if that happens.
