A second crash is open on Interstate 75 southbound at Estero this morning, at mile marker 123, a mile north of the hit and run entry that cleared at five to seven, and the Florida Highway Patrol puts its roadblock on the left shoulder

The Florida Highway Patrol has a second entry open on its dispatch board for Interstate 75 southbound at Estero, this one at mile marker 123, with the remarks reading roadblock left shoulder.

The entry was logged at 6.59 a.m. On two readings taken about thirty seconds apart, at 7.05 a.m. and 7.06 a.m., it was still on the board, and the columns this desk reads as the update stamp and the clearance stamp were both empty on each of them.

The board types the incident as a vehicle crash with roadblock. The remarks put the roadblock on the left shoulder and say nothing further, so how much of the southbound carriageway is affected is not something the record states, and in particular the board does not describe a lane as closed.

A mile south, the separate hit and run crash at mile marker 122 that this site reported at half past six has cleared. On both of these readings its clearance column carries a stamp of 6.55 a.m., where that column was empty on all three readings taken for the earlier brief. The two are separate entries on the board. Nothing on the record connects them beyond the fact that they fell a mile and half an hour apart, and no connection is asserted here.

What the board does not carry is most of what matters. There is no injury information, no count of vehicles, no description of them and no account of the crash. No person is named on the record. No agency has published a statement on this crash that this desk could locate.

Neither local newsroom could be read on this run. The WINK News search feed returned a rate limit error, as it did on the earlier brief this morning, and on Gulf Coast News the dated traffic alerts path returned a not found error and the sitemap redirected to an empty response. Nothing here is corroborated against either, and this rests on the state dispatch record alone.

Both readings returned a populated grid of thirty three statewide rows, and both returned the same two records for Lee and Collier counties and nothing else. That check matters because a parse that returns nothing can read like a quiet morning rather than a failure, so the row count was confirmed before the county filter was believed.

The time needs the same note as the earlier brief. The board prints its timestamps on a twelve hour clock with no marker for morning or evening, so a row reading six fifty nine could mean either. This one is the morning. This desk's five minute watcher carried the mile marker 122 row at 6.59 a.m. and not this one, and picked this row up at 7.04 a.m., which puts its appearance inside those five minutes. The rest of the board agrees: of the timestamp cells on the thirty three rows, fifty five carry an hour of six and six carry an hour of seven, the hour the readings were taken in, and none anywhere reads thirteen or above.

Mile marker 123 sits between the Corkscrew Road interchange to the north and the Bonita Beach Road interchange to the south. United States 41 runs parallel through Estero and Bonita Springs for anyone who needs to get around the stretch.

Update, 7.17 a.m. The Florida Highway Patrol has since moved this entry on its board. Its location now reads Corkscrew Road at the Interstate 75 southbound entrance ramp at exit 123, and its coordinates have shifted about three quarters of a kilometre southeast to match, so the description above of a scene on the southbound carriageway between interchanges is what the board said at the time and is not what it says now. The entry keeps its 6.59 a.m. dispatch time, has gained an update stamp of 7.07 a.m. and is still open with its remarks on the left shoulder. A further entry has also been logged at 7.12 a.m. at mile marker 123 with its roadblock in the left lane. Both are covered in this site's later brief on the stretch.
