Estero Fire Rescue put the fire out, with Bonita Springs Fire and Lee County EMS also on scene, according to the News-Press. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation. There are two practical things worth taking from it. The first is that a single blocked lane on this stretch is not a minor event. Interstate 75 through south Lee County is the only continuous north to south route on this side of the county, with no frontage road running alongside it, and traffic that spills off it lands on Three Oaks Parkway or US 41 through Estero and Bonita, both of which are signalised surface roads that absorb interstate volume badly. That is the reason a thirty minute lane block reads as an hour or more of your afternoon. The second is about vehicle fires in August specifically. This was a day of extreme heat in Lee County, which the News-Press noted in its own report, and heat is hard on cooling systems, tyres and brakes on heavily loaded trucks. If you drive a loaded vehicle on this corridor in high summer, the interval between checks on tyre pressure and coolant matters more than it does in February. Nothing here should be read as a cause in this particular case, because no agency has released one. On following incidents like this in real time, one caution. The state dispatch board carries only calls the Florida Highway Patrol is dispatched to, so an incident worked by a county or municipal agency alone never appears on it, and a quiet board means nothing reported rather than nothing happening. It also publishes no clearance column, so the useful signal is the remarks field while a call is still live, which in this case said plainly that the roadblock was clear.

The Florida Highway Patrol dispatch board recorded the call at 12.45 p.m., a dispatch at 12.50 and an arrival at 1.21 p.m., with the left lane blocked for emergency responders. Within five minutes of that arrival the state's remarks field on the same call read that the roadblock was clear.

The Fort Myers News-Press reports that Estero Fire Rescue extinguished the flames, with Bonita Springs Fire and Lee County EMS also responding, and that there were no reports of injuries. The report is by Mark H. Bickel. No cause has been released and the cause is under investigation.

The state tags the location Bonita Springs and the News-Press describes it as near Estero. Mile marker 121 sits between the two.

The News-Press noted the fire came on a day of extreme heat in Lee County.
