Sanibel's 14-unit Gulf Beach Condominium rebuild breaks ground at $6.5 million
Benchmark General Contractors says it broke ground September 4 on a $6.5 million, 14-unit Gulf Beach Condominium at 527 E. Gulf Drive on Sanibel. The 28,542-square-foot project will replace the building destroyed by Hurricane Ian, with two residential floors above parking and completion expected in December 2027.

Benchmark General Contractors says it broke ground September 4 on a $6.5 million, 14-unit Gulf Beach Condominium at 527 E. Gulf Drive on Sanibel.
The contractor's September 8 project release says the new building will replace the original condominium, which was destroyed after damage from Hurricane Ian.
What the Sanibel condominium rebuild includes
The project covers 28,542 square feet. Its 14 homes will occupy two floors above first-floor parking on a single building footprint.
Plans also include a pool and a dune crossover ramp that will give residents direct beach access. The contractor expects construction to be completed in December 2027.
The Gulf Beach Condominium Association awarded the project in April. The September groundbreaking turns that earlier plan into active construction.
Sanibel's reconstruction remains a property-by-property process nearly four years after Ian. A separate city-backed effort is replanting the island's Causeway Boulevard corridor as the Lee County recovery continues.
