The evacuation total across France and Spain has passed 360,000, and 55,000 of them left the Gironde overnight

Around 250,000 people have now left the Gironde region in total, where roughly 42,000 hectares have burned, and Al Jazeera describes the fire there as one of the largest France has endured since the Second World War.

The deployment figures do not line up between the two accounts, and this brief does not reconcile them. Al Jazeera reports 1,500 military personnel, 1,700 security personnel and 1,400 firefighters committed since the fires broke out on Tuesday, along with military aircraft dropping flame retardants. In Spain more than 116,000 people have been evacuated, from fires west of Madrid and in the Valencia region on the east coast.
