Bonita Springs firefighters are working to put the Vincent Road brush fire all the way out on Wednesday, Gulf Coast News reports.

The South Strike Team has been on the scene since 9.30 a.m., according to Bonita Springs Fire, and the district says crews will keep working until the remaining areas are secured and the fire is fully extinguished.

The part that reaches the road

The roundabout at the location is being reduced to one lane while operations continue.

That is the first road restriction attached to these fires in four days of coverage. Nothing here is a full closure, and nobody has been asked to leave, but anyone driving out that way today should expect to be squeezed into a single lane at the roundabout for as long as crews are working.

Verizon is on a generator, and Florida Power and Light is still waiting

Verizon service in the area is currently operating on generator power.

That is new. Every utility effect reported so far has been about Florida Power and Light and the power poles the fire damaged, and nobody had said anything about telephone or data service until this morning.

Florida Power and Light crews are standing by to begin restoration work once fire crews are able to give them safe access. That is the same constraint Bonita Springs Fire Control Chief Greg DeWitt described a day earlier, when he said the utility had already looked at the damage but that there is only one road in and out. It has now held for a second day.

The fire itself, and a second name for it

Gulf Coast News gives the fire as near Bonita Beach Road, sparked on Monday, spread to seventy acres, and ninety five per cent contained according to the Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District.

Those figures match the larger of the two fires this desk has been reporting since Monday as the Radio Tower Road fire. Read this as the same fire under a second road name. No agency has published anything reconciling the two.

One thing in the sourcing is better than it has been all week. The containment figure here is attributed to the fire district itself. Every acreage and containment number the public has had until now reached it through television newsrooms relaying the Florida Forest Service.

On the cause, hold the careful version

Gulf Coast News states that the fire was caused by a lightning strike.

WINK News reported the same cause a day earlier but attributed it to fire officials and called it likely. No agency has published a cause determination in writing, and the Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District's own website still carries nothing about these fires at all.

The honest reading is unchanged. Lightning is the cause fire officials have offered, and it is not yet a finding anyone has published.
