Lee County has awarded a $197,676 contract to inspect, clean and line storm drains along Bonita Beach Road in Bonita Springs.

The county agenda record covers 1,488 linear feet of pipe from Mango Drive east to Interstate 75. County staff said inspections identified the necessary repairs and that the work is needed to improve stormwater drainage.

Commissioners approved the award as part of the consent agenda without objection during the county's September 15 meeting.

What the Bonita drainage contract includes

Hinterland Group LLC will provide video inspection, cleaning and cured-in-place pipe lining. That method rehabilitates a pipe from inside, avoiding a full replacement excavation along the entire segment.

Lee County received five quotes by the July 31 deadline. The transportation department selected Hinterland as the responsible bidder with the lowest responsive quote.

The $197,676 expense is in the current budget and will come from the Transportation Trust. The county says the project will not affect future budgets.

What the record does not say

The county report does not list a construction start, completion date or lane-closure plan. Drivers and nearby properties should not assume that the contract award means work begins immediately.

The decision adds a defined drainage repair to the county's work in the Lee County corridor, but the public record does not quantify how much flooding the lining is expected to prevent.
