A van caught fire on the Bonita Beach Road on-ramp to Interstate 75 southbound on Thursday, and the ramp was closed while it was put out.
The Florida Highway Patrol logged the call at 12.18 p.m. at the southbound entrance at exit 116. Its board records the incident as a vehicle fire in Lee County and records the roadway as clear.
Gulf Coast News, which reported the fire, says troopers and Bonita Springs fire crews were called to the scene at approximately 12.18 p.m. It reports the Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District as saying nobody was injured and that the on-ramp was closed because of the fire, and the Highway Patrol as saying the roadway is clear.
Exit 116 is the Bonita Beach Road interchange, the main way onto the interstate for Bonita Springs and for traffic coming off Bonita Beach and Barefoot Beach. A closure on that ramp sends southbound drivers onto Old 41 and Tamiami Trail instead. This one was short.
Nothing else has been made public. No agency has released a cause, a driver, an occupant count or what became of the van. The Highway Patrol has published no statement beyond its dispatch entry. Nobody has been accused of anything.
The usual jurisdiction limit applies to the state board. It carries Interstate 75 and its ramps. It does not carry Lee County or City of Bonita Springs streets, so those are unreported rather than confirmed clear.
There is no active National Weather Service alert touching Lee County, so no weather condition was in effect on the road and none is offered as a cause.
