Alamo Drafthouse will close its Mercato cinema in North Naples on September 9

Tim Aten at Gulfshore Business first reported that Alamo Drafthouse will close its 11-screen Mercato cinema in North Naples after September 9.

The closing comes less than two and a half years after Alamo opened there in April 2024. The cinema occupies the former Silverspot space at the Mercato shopping center.

What customers and workers were told

An Alamo spokesperson told Aten that the company will offer severance to all employees at the location. The chain also plans to connect interested workers with comparable jobs where possible.

Naples Season Pass subscriptions will be canceled. Alamo told the outlet that affected subscribers will receive prorated refunds.

The company's public Naples theater page still showed general location information when checked Monday and did not carry a separate public closure notice.

A possible replacement is not final

Paragon Theaters is discussing a tenant agreement for the space. Co-CEO and co-owner Michael Whalen told Gulfshore Business that Paragon hopes to reopen the cinema by mid-December if it reaches a deal.

That timing is a goal, not a confirmed opening date. A Mercato spokesperson told the outlet that a new theater tenant was in the works but did not publicly name it in the shopping center's statement.

Whalen described possible seating and dining upgrades if Paragon becomes the operator. Until the tenant agreement is completed, customers should treat those plans and the mid-December target as conditional.
