U.S. wholesale sales grew faster than inventories in August.
Sales rose 1.8 percent from July to a seasonally adjusted $817.455bn, the Census Bureau reported Thursday. That was 15.6 percent above August 2025. July's monthly gain was revised to 1.0 percent from 0.8 percent.
Inventories increased 0.5 percent to $964.199bn, revised down from the 0.7 percent advance estimate. They were 6.4 percent higher than one year earlier.
The inventory-to-sales ratio fell to 1.18 from 1.28 in August 2025. That means wholesalers held less stock relative to their current sales pace than they did a year earlier.
The estimates are adjusted for seasonal and trading-day effects, but not for price changes.
