$88.6bn. That was the U.S. goods and services trade deficit in July, the Census Bureau and Bureau of Economic Analysis reported Thursday.

Both sides moved.

Exports fell $6.6bn to $310.7bn, a 2.1 percent decline from June. Imports rose $10.8bn to $399.3bn, an increase of 2.8 percent. The resulting deficit was $17.4bn wider than June's revised $71.2bn gap, a 24.4 percent increase.

The goods deficit widened $17.6bn to $119.6bn. The services surplus increased $0.2bn to $31.0bn.

Through July, the total deficit was still $188.4bn below the same period in 2025, a drop of 29.6 percent. Exports were up 12.0 percent over that period and imports were up 1.9 percent.
