South Korea July births rise 11.1 percent as natural decline narrows

South Korea recorded 24,275 births in July, 11.1 percent more than a year earlier, Statistics Korea said Wednesday. Deaths rose 3.0 percent to 28,921, leaving a natural decrease of 4,647 people. That gap was 1,581 smaller than in July 2025.

The monthly fertility rate rose to 0.89 from 0.81. Across January through July, births reached 170,079, up 14.7 percent. Marriages rose 9.3 percent to 22,282, while divorces slipped 0.8 percent to 7,764.

The data are provisional. Birth and death totals include estimates for late reports, while marriage and divorce counts are based on registrations.
