South Korea plans to supply 1.19 million publicly supported homes by 2030, according to a housing stability plan. Seventy-seven percent, or 920,000 units, would be in the Seoul metropolitan area.

The total is broader than new construction. It includes 350,000 newly built public rentals, 310,000 purchased rentals and 230,000 lease rentals using existing private homes, along with homes for public sale and other units.

The ministry plans 243,000 homes for public sale. It also aims to lift long-term public rental stock from 1.931 million units in 2024 to more than 2.5 million by 2030, above 10 percent of the national housing stock.

About 150,000 units are expected to be available for occupancy between the fourth quarter of 2026 and the end of 2027.
