SoftBank Group set terms for about $11.1bn of foreign-currency senior notes, saying $10bn will fund the third and final tranche of its $30bn follow-on investment in OpenAI Group.
That borrowing is expensive.
The dollar sale includes $1bn due in 2030 at 8.625 percent and two $4.5bn tranches due in 2032 and 2034 at 9.25 and 9.75 percent. Two EUR 500mn notes carry coupons of 7.125 and 8 percent.
All five tranches are unsecured, unguaranteed and rated BB+ by S&P and Fitch. SoftBank expects to issue them September 29, close the OpenAI payment October 1 and cancel $10bn of unused capacity under its $40bn bridge facility.
