Singapore recorded 4,620 retrenchments in the second quarter, up from 3,830 in the first, according to the final labour market report. The incidence rose to 2.0 per 1,000 employees from 1.6.
Total employment still grew by 11,400. Nonresident employment supplied 9,200 of that increase, while resident employment grew by 2,200. The overall unemployment rate held at 1.9 percent in June.
Hiring softened. Seasonally adjusted vacancies fell to 68,600 from 73,300 in March, and the six-month re-entry rate for retrenched residents fell to 54.9 percent from 60.7 percent.
The re-entry comparison covers different layoff cohorts. The latest rate tracks residents retrenched in the fourth quarter of 2025, and the administrative data exclude self-employment, informal work and training.
