Pending U.S. home sales rose 0.3 percent in August, the National Association of Realtors reported Thursday. Contract signings remained 4.7 percent below August 2025.
The split was regional. Sales under contract rose 3.0 percent in the West and 2.3 percent in the South from July, while the Northeast fell 4.2 percent and the Midwest declined 1.6 percent. Every region remained below its year-earlier level.
Contracts are not closings. The release says a pending sale usually closes within one or two months and that the index draws on about 40 percent of monthly multiple listing service data.
