OFAC removes 125 names from sanctions lists and updates 22 entries
The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control removed 125 people and entities from its sanctions lists and updated 22 entries on Monday, the third major action in its sanctions modernization review.
The list is shorter.
The removals cover deceased people, defunct companies and entries without enough identifying information for reliable compliance screening. Treasury said every removal followed an interagency review.
The 22 revisions add or remove identifiers to reduce false matches. Treasury also pointed to the September 18 removal of six Ethiopia-related entries after the underlying national emergency was not renewed. Banks and other screening teams still need the linked OFAC action list before changing controls.
