Nine percent. New Zealand's merchandise terms of trade fell by that much in the June quarter, Stats NZ reported Thursday.

Import prices rose 14 percent from the March quarter while export prices increased 3.5 percent. Seasonally adjusted export volumes rose 6.4 percent and import volumes fell 2.1 percent.

The trade total still grew over the year. Goods and services exports reached NZ$32.5bn, against NZ$28.5bn a year earlier, while imports rose to NZ$32.4bn from NZ$27.5bn.

Two-way trade came to NZ$64.9bn. The merchandise price shift is separate from the volume growth recorded in the same release.
