New Zealand GDP grows 0.2 percent as construction rises 2.7 percent

New Zealand's economy grew 0.2 percent in the June quarter after a 0.9 percent first-quarter rise, Stats NZ reported Thursday. GDP was 1.7 percent higher than a year earlier.

Growth was narrow. Construction rose 2.7 percent, driven by construction services and residential building. Transport, postal and warehousing fell 1.7 percent, while retail trade and accommodation fell 1.0 percent.

GDP per person increased 0.1 percent and expenditure on GDP rose 0.4 percent. Real gross national disposable income moved the other way, falling 0.4 percent overall and 0.6 percent per person.
