New Zealand filled jobs rose 0.2 percent in August

New Zealand's seasonally adjusted filled jobs rose by 5,391 in August, a 0.2 percent monthly gain that lifted the total to 2.36m.

The Stats NZ release shows gains across the three broad sectors. Primary industries added 555 jobs, goods-producing industries added 2,008 and service industries added 2,734.

The gain was broad but modest.

On an unadjusted basis, filled jobs rose 20,800, or 0.9 percent, from August 2025 to 2.34m. Public administration added 6,121 jobs over the year, while health care and social assistance added 6,108.

Gross earnings increased by NZ$610m, or 3.8 percent, to NZ$16.6bn. The filled-jobs series is based on tax data and does not measure unemployment.
