New Zealand annual trade deficit widens to NZ$5.4bn
NZ$5.4bn. That was New Zealand's goods trade deficit for the year ended August, up from NZ$3.2bn a year earlier, Stats NZ reported Friday.
Annual goods exports rose NZ$7.7bn to NZ$85.3bn, while imports increased NZ$10bn to NZ$90.8bn.
For August alone, exports rose 15 percent from a year earlier to NZ$6.7bn. Imports climbed 13 percent to NZ$8.0bn, leaving a monthly deficit of NZ$1.3bn.
Petroleum imports rose NZ$344m and vehicle imports gained NZ$220m. Meat exports increased NZ$144m, fruit added NZ$100m, and milk powder, butter and cheese gained NZ$84m.
