Malaysia holds its policy rate at 2.75% as first-half growth reaches 5.7 percent
Bank Negara Malaysia held its overnight policy rate at 2.75 percent on Thursday.
The rate did not move.
Malaysia's economy expanded 5.7 percent in the first half of 2026. The central bank expects that momentum to put full-year growth at around 5 percent, supported by exports, tourism and domestic demand.
Headline inflation averaged 1.8 percent in the first seven months, while core inflation averaged 2 percent. The bank said domestic measures and stable demand have limited the effect of higher costs on consumer prices, though elevated global commodity prices are still pressing on costs.
The committee said the current rate remains consistent with price stability and sustainable growth. Its next decision is scheduled for November 5.
