Malaysia's industrial output rose 5 percent as electronics jumped 17 percent

Electronics carried the gain.
Malaysia's industrial production rose 5.0 percent from a year earlier in August, the Department of Statistics reported Friday. Manufacturing output increased 7.4 percent and electricity generation rose 9.0 percent. Mining fell 7.4 percent.
Factory output accelerated from 6.4 percent growth in July. Electrical and electronics products rose 17.0 percent, while export-oriented manufacturing increased 9.1 percent and domestic-oriented manufacturing grew 3.9 percent.
The seasonally adjusted headline index rose 0.5 percent from July. The August figures are provisional.
