At $75.15bn, South Korea recorded its highest monthly technology exports in September, according to the trade ministry release published Wednesday. That was 195.8 percent above the $25.40bn recorded a year earlier.

Chips supplied most of the total.

Semiconductor exports reached $60.33bn, accounting for 80.3 percent of information and communications technology exports. The ministry attributed the increase partly to demand for higher-value products and rising memory-chip contract prices.

The gains were uneven. Display exports fell 11.5 percent from a year earlier, while communications equipment fell 2.3 percent. ICT imports rose to $21.43bn from $13.80bn.

The figures are provisional and measure export value, not physical shipment volumes.
