South Korea's producer prices rose 7.9 percent as semiconductor prices more than doubled
South Korea's producer price index rose 7.9 percent from a year earlier in August, the Bank of Korea reported Friday. The preliminary index increased 0.2 percent from July.
Manufacturing prices rose 12.2 percent over the year. Semiconductor prices climbed 147.6 percent, while computers and peripherals rose 158.3 percent. Coal and petroleum products increased 54.3 percent.
The monthly measures moved differently. Agricultural, forestry and marine prices rose 3.8 percent, while manufacturing was unchanged. The broader domestic supply price index fell 1.3 percent from July but remained 8.6 percent above a year earlier. The figures may be revised next month.
