Japan's core machinery orders fell 3.7 percent in July
Japan's core private machinery orders fell 3.7 percent in July from June on a seasonally adjusted basis, the Cabinet Office reported Wednesday morning in Tokyo.
The rebound did not hold. The same series, which excludes orders for ships and from electric power companies, had risen 9.7 percent in June.
Total machinery orders received by 280 manufacturers operating in Japan fell 5.5 percent in July. Both measures describe orders placed, not investment already completed.
The release did not give an August estimate. Its most recent quarterly forecast, published with the June results, called for core private orders to rise 4.9 percent in the July through September period.
