Japan's household spending fell 3.1 percent for a ninth straight month
Japanese households with at least two people spent an average 310,975 yen in August, the Statistics Bureau reported Friday. That was 1.0 percent less than a year earlier in nominal terms and 3.1 percent less after adjusting for prices.
Real spending fell again.
The decline was the ninth in a row. Seasonally adjusted real spending rose 0.1 percent from July.
Workers' households received an average 616,704 yen. Nominal income rose 1.3 percent, while real income fell 0.9 percent on the bureau's measure excluding imputed rent.
