Italian retail sales fell 0.5 percent by volume in July

Italian retail sales fell 0.4 percent by value and 0.5 percent by volume in July from June after seasonal adjustment, Istat reported Friday. It was the second consecutive monthly decline on both measures.

Spending was 0.8 percent higher than in July 2025, while sales volume was 0.6 percent lower. Large-scale distribution increased 1.6 percent by value and 0.6 percent by volume, while small retailers were flat by value and down 1.7 percent by volume.

Online sales rose 2.4 percent by value and 1.6 percent by volume from a year earlier. Across the three months through July, total retail value rose 0.2 percent and volume fell 0.1 percent.
