German service prices rose 3.7 percent as sea freight climbed 20.7 percent

Sea and coastal freight prices in Germany rose 20.7 percent in the second quarter from a year earlier. They climbed 23.4 percent from the first quarter.

That increase helped lift the broader service producer price index by 3.7 percent over the year and 1.6 percent over the quarter, the Federal Statistical Office reported Friday. It was the largest annual increase since the fourth quarter of 2022.

Transport and storage prices rose 6.2 percent from a year earlier. The release also shows road freight up 5.8 percent and freight forwarding up 6.2 percent.

Professional services also cost more. Accounting services rose 6.0 percent from the second quarter of 2025, while legal services increased 4.1 percent.
