German consumer prices rose 3.3% from a year earlier in September, up from 2.9% in August, the Federal Statistical Office confirmed Tuesday. Prices increased 0.6% from the previous month. The annual rate was the highest since December 2023.

Energy drove the acceleration. Energy prices rose 14.9% from a year earlier, with motor fuels up 37.1% and heating oil up 74.9%. Inflation excluding food and energy held at 2.4% for a third consecutive month.

The September figures do not include the renewed fuel-tax reduction, which took effect October 1. The release confirms the preliminary September estimates.
