German producer prices rose 4.6 percent as mineral oil products jumped 40.5 percent

Energy drove German producer prices 4.6 percent higher in August from a year earlier, the Federal Statistical Office reported Friday. The index rose 1.1 percent from July.
Mineral oil product prices jumped 40.5 percent over the year and 4.9 percent for the month. The release puts light heating oil 65.3 percent above August 2025, motor fuels 37.7 percent higher and naphtha up 44.4 percent.
The increase reached beyond energy. Intermediate goods rose 6.1 percent from a year earlier, including a 14.8 percent rise in metals. Capital goods rose 2.4 percent.
Consumer goods moved the other way. Their prices fell 2.0 percent over the year, with food down 4.3 percent.
