Euro area retail volume fell 0.6 percent as nonfood sales dropped

Eurostat's July retail release shows seasonally adjusted sales volume fell 0.6 percent in the euro area and 0.4 percent in the European Union from June.

June was revised upward.

Eurostat revised the euro area reading to a 0.2 percent increase from a 0.3 percent decline. The EU reading was also revised to a 0.2 percent increase, replacing a 0.1 percent fall.

The July split was uneven. Food, drinks and tobacco volume increased 0.4 percent in the euro area. Nonfood products excluding automotive fuel fell 1.4 percent, while automotive fuel declined 0.8 percent.

Compared with July 2025, total retail volume was 0.6 percent higher in the euro area and 1.0 percent higher across the EU.
