Euro area retail volume rose 0.1% in August as fuel sales fell

Eurostat said seasonally adjusted retail trade volume rose 0.1 percent in both the euro area and European Union in August from July.
The gain was narrow.
Euro-area nonfood volume excluding automotive fuel rose 0.5 percent, and food, drinks and tobacco rose 0.1 percent. Automotive fuel in specialised stores fell 1.9 percent.
July's euro-area decline remained 0.6 percent. The EU decline was revised to 0.5 percent from 0.4 percent.
Compared with August 2025, total volume rose 0.8 percent in the euro area and 1.2 percent in the EU. Germany rose 1.3 percent from July but was 0.4 percent lower than a year earlier.
