€179bn. That is the increase.

Euro area pension funds held €3.909tn of assets at the end of the second quarter, European Central Bank data updated Wednesday show. The total was €179bn higher than at the end of March, a rise of 4.8 percent.

The second-quarter observation is provisional. It measures outstanding assets held by pension funds resident in the euro area, not contributions, investment returns or account balances for individual savers.

Total assets were also 6.0 percent above the €3.689tn recorded at the end of 2025. The series covers all maturities, currencies and counterpart areas.
