Euro area inflation rises to 3.8 percent as energy rate reaches 18.8 percent

Euro area annual inflation rose to an estimated 3.8 percent in September from 3.2 percent in August, Eurostat said Friday. The overall index increased 0.6 percent from August.
Energy was the largest component. Its annual rate reached 18.8 percent, up from 14.3 percent in August. Services inflation rose to 3.2 percent, while food, alcohol and tobacco reached 1.4 percent.
The measure excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco increased to 2.5 percent from 2.4 percent. Non-energy industrial goods moved the other way, easing to 1.1 percent from 1.2 percent.
