China's factory prices rise 5% as consumer inflation stays below 1%
China's factory-gate prices rose 5 percent in September from a year earlier, while consumer inflation remained below 1 percent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
The price pressures differ sharply.
The producer-price release showed a 1.2 percent monthly increase. Prices for production materials rose 6.5 percent over the year, but factory prices for consumer goods fell 0.1 percent. Prices paid by industrial purchasers increased 6.9 percent.
The separate consumer-price release showed annual inflation of 0.9 percent and a monthly rise of 0.2 percent. Food prices were 1.7 percent below their level a year earlier.
Core consumer inflation, which excludes food and energy, was 1 percent. These measures cover different transactions: prices charged by industrial producers and prices paid by households.
