China's August exports rose 25 percent as imports climbed 28.2 percent

China's exports accelerated in August.
Shipments rose 25 percent from a year earlier to $401.44bn, Sherry Wang of the South China Morning Post reported Tuesday from customs data. Imports climbed 28.2 percent to $282.36bn. The monthly surplus widened to $119.09bn from $112.5bn in July.
The yuan figures tell the same story. Xinhua's Zou Duowei reported total trade of 4.65tn yuan for August, up 19.8 percent. Exports rose 18.6 percent and imports 21.7 percent.
Imports have grown faster than exports for six straight months on that measure. No customs bulletin is linked here. The customs administration's public site returned an access-control page rather than the release.
