China consumer prices rose 0.8 percent as factory gate inflation reached 3.8 percent

Both price measures turned higher.
China's consumer prices rose 0.8 percent from a year earlier, while factory gate prices rose 3.8 percent, the National Bureau of Statistics reported Wednesday. Both indexes increased 0.4 percent from July after monthly declines in July.
Core consumer inflation excluding food and energy reached 1.0 percent. Food prices fell 1.4 percent over the year.
Production materials rose 5.0 percent and accounted for about 3.92 percentage points of the producer price increase, while consumer goods at the factory gate fell 0.5 percent. The bureau attributed the faster annual consumer rate mainly to energy, with gasoline prices up 9.3 percent.
