T-Mobile grew again, and more slowly where it counts. The carrier added 277,000 postpaid accounts in the second quarter, its measure of net new customer relationships, down 13 percent from the same period a year earlier. Service revenue and profit still rose. The company reported the results on July 23.
Service revenues were $19.0bn, up 9 percent. Total revenue was $22.79bn, up 7.9 percent from $21.13bn a year earlier, and net income of $3.24bn edged up 1 percent as diluted earnings per share of $2.99 rose 5 percent. Core adjusted earnings, the profit measure the company leads with, were $9.5bn, up 12 percent. Both the profit and the per-share figures absorbed $146m of costs, net of tax, from folding in UScellular.
T-Mobile did not raise its full-year targets. It reiterated a forecast of 950,000 to 1.05 million postpaid net account additions and core adjusted earnings above $37.1bn. Srini Gopalan, the chief executive, said the company reached its highest wireless customer-satisfaction score on record.
