Diesel in Naples reached $5.48 a gallon on Monday, 19 cents above the national average and 47 percent above last July

Diesel across Southwest Florida is now running above the national average. AAA put the Naples metro average at $5.484 a gallon on Monday and the Fort Myers-Cape Coral metro at $5.455, against a national average of $5.296 the same day.

The move has been fast. Four weeks ago AAA had Naples diesel at $4.729 and Fort Myers-Cape Coral at $4.582, so the two metros have added 75.5 cents and 87.3 cents in a month. Against the same date last July, when the readings were $3.728 and $3.692, the increases are $1.756 and $1.763, or 47.1 and 47.8 percent.

Regular gasoline has climbed too, though less steeply and from a lower base relative to the rest of the country. Naples averaged $4.014 on Monday and Fort Myers-Cape Coral $3.958, which places one metro just above the Florida average of $3.969 and the other just below it. Both remain under the national average of $4.110. A year ago the same two readings were $3.181 and $3.126, so regular is up 26.2 percent in Naples and 26.6 percent in Fort Myers-Cape Coral.

AAA named the cause in its weekly update on July 23, pointing to rising crude prices and citing volatility along the Strait of Hormuz and instability in the region. Statewide, Florida averaged $3.969 for regular and $5.436 for diesel on Monday, which puts Florida diesel 14 cents above the national figure.

Neither metro is at a record. AAA lists the highest diesel average it has recorded for Naples as $5.900 and for Fort Myers-Cape Coral as $5.877, both set on April 2, 2026, when the Florida statewide diesel record of $5.820 was also set. The regular gasoline records for the two metros, $4.917 and $4.875, date from June 2022.
